Ready for Fall 2013 #1 - phone-fall

Hello friends!

I'm so excited that fall (or Autumn - has a more classy ring to it don't you think?) has finally seemed to arrive to my little corner of the world. While it's still super weird to me how you can walk around in shorts and a tank top (apparently) at the end of September here in Indiana, that is a nice change from rainy cold Germany fall. Although I gotta say that I'm kind of looking forward to that. Is that wrong? (Side note: Also, is it wrong to hope that Mr White gets caught at the end in Breaking Bad? And if you already know, DON'T TELL ME!)

So I've been drinking a lot of pumpkin lattes and I've been eating pumpkin muffins, but I haven't had a chance to get into fall decorations yet, seeing as I am currently between homes and countries. Hashtagfirstworldproblems. But to get myself in the spirit and to maybe offer some inspiration for this year, here are some killer fall pictures of last year's oh so perfect fall. Taken with my phone. Next up: Super awesome fall pictures in actual GOOD quality taken with my DSLR. ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
fall in bloomington. carrot cake and red velvet cupcakes. cats.
on the plane in october. so much giddyness behind these pictures.
climbed a tree at eagle creek reservoir only a few days after my arrival.
the lake looks funny with the water down. campfires are the bomb.
SO pretty. I prefer this to summer.
funny socks and campfire smell in my hair. best cookies in the world.
cooking over the fire is amazing and perfect for fall camping.
canoe trip. exploring some tiny caves that are usually underwater.
trying not to get stuck. made some cheesecake. took a nap.
first halloween in the states calls for some awesome couple costumes.
Until tomorrow - with my camera-fall. :) DSLR cameras say it best. ;)
Lakes and Oceans in watercolor
Today was one of those days where I had a million things planned and ended up not getting anything done. So to cheer myself up I at least finished my watercolor painting that I had lying around for ages. I've been getting into watercolors lately, they're so much fun. I'm still getting used to them however, being a acrylic girl myself. But I definitely have a new crush.
(this watercolor painting is for my aunt and uncle as a homemade present for when I come home. I still have a bigger project waiting to finish for them so maybe this one will tie them over)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(this one was a birthday present for my grandma that I mailed to her. I am going to do multiple birds in watercolor for her as well that match this watercolor painting for christmas so she has a set to hang up together)

I hope your Tuesday was more productive than mine! But to make it all better I'm going to make Crab Cakes now. So excited!!

Until next time!

DIY earrings, what I wore and other tidbits

I love the weather here in Indy today (on Friday.. didn't get to upload this until now.. because I was in NASHVILLE all weekend! yaaay!!)! It was storming all night and still is, and it's so grey and windy and rainy outside (so my enthusiasm might seem a little misplaced to you), but I LOVE it because it's finally time for fall. :) I have been putting gallons of Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer into my coffee ever since it appeared in the stores, and it's probably gonna be my most missed thing when I fly back home in a week and a half (aaah!). Besides my boyfriend of course. ;)

Since the weather was so fall-like and grey and cuddly and awesome I spent the day crafting like crazy. Oh and I also went shopping in the morning, to get craft supplies and red lipstick for the Taylor Swift concert in Nashville on Saturday. sorrynotsorry.. ;) At the Origins counter I got some free goodies - always a good thing (and I'm loving my new eye cream! The Origins GinZing - so refreshing in the morning). And I finally got the perfect denim button up shirt that I have been searching for. And the best sweater in the world.

Inspired by this DIY book I made these lovely earrings (see below). I made 3 pairs - one for me, one for my lovely friend Lesley Bob and one for my friend Chrissi back home, so I have an awesome DIY project to give her when I finally see her again. :) Because DIY like presents are the best presents! I'm so happy about them! They are the first pieces of jewelry that I've made (and they were the perfect project to start with - SO easy!!) and I'm SO happy with how they turned out. I already got tons of compliments wearing them out to a birthday party that same Friday night. So I'd say they were a big DIY success. :) Lesley Bob liked hers too! I have 3 other jewelry projects that I definitely want to do out of that book before I leave so expect at least a couple more bohemian inspired jewelry DIY's. ;)

After crafts day I spent the rest of the night going to my friend's birthday party, cuddling with her 3 month old Aussie pup and her sister's newborn baby. Here's my outfit of the day (ootd) and make-up. It was an awesome day!

(dress: h&m; leggings: victoria's secret; shirt: levi's; shoes: pointer; watch: casio; jewelry: handmade + accessorize + gifts + vintage)

I then spent this weekend in Nashville, mainly for the Taylor Swift concert haha. It was so perfect though. And I love that town and I'm super thankful that I got to go before I have to leave. Nashville pics are coming up soon - from my previous visit also, that was a couple of months ago. But now I have to watch the Dexter finale before someone spoils it for me. because you gotta have your priorities in order. ;)

happy monday! :)

Sonja Bob's Travel-Log - Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Minnesota

Hey guys!

I thought it was about time I'd share some of my pictures I took on my awesome trip up to Northern Minnesota! It was definitely one of the best vacations I've ever been on, even with millions and millions of pretty extroverted mosquitoes trying to get a bite of my private parts every time I went to the bathroom... So you can imagine that the rest must have been pretty good. ;-)

I have been working on a Minnesota/Boundary Waters collage with watercolor and ink where I document all the things we saw or did up north - like the different birds and fish, loons being my absolute favorite. There is nothing quite so romantic as lying in your tent at night next to your favorite person listening to loons call out to each other from opposite sides of the lake. :) These things make me happy!

If you're not a camping person, being out there in the wilderness without a flushing toilet, lip gloss or a Frozen Yogurt place nearby might seem insane to you. And even if you do go camping once in a while, being out there in a tiny canoe on a big, wavy lake with a thunderstorm hammering rain at you while you struggle to paddle against the wind with lightening coming down right across the bay might not seem like such a fun time. In my experience though, going outside of your comfort zone every once in a while can do wonders to your soul. And by that I don't mean to go a shade darker next time you're at the salon.

So Minnesota is definitely my new favorite place on earth - even though all the moose and bears were pretty shy and even the beavers didn't want to come out of their homes. If you need tips on how to survive in the wilderness without giving up everything that makes you a girl - let me know. ;)

These are the creme de la creme of my pictures.. meaning that they are a random selection of them. it was almost impossible to choose only a few, since I took about a million. Might do a video project with the rest.. hmmm...

Tell me about your adventures!!
xx, Sonja Bob
